The Skye Mor & Beag Cycle Challenge
in association with Hands On Events
Places strictly limited to 9 per trip, book early to avoid disappointment.
Skye is quite simply stunning. As you cycle around the island, every corner you turn will offer a new perspective and view of stunning mountain scenery. Whether it is the the Old Man of Storr on the Trotternish peninsula or the dramatic Black and Red Cuillin mountains that rise dramatically from sea level, you will not be disappointed. If you see a giant sillhouette overtaking you, it’ll be one of Skye’s several pairs of sea eagles which are regularily seen from the island’s roads. Cycling in Scotland on the mainland offers up a wide variety of terrain. Cycling on an island in the Inner Hebrides throws up a whole new ball game, or should that be pedal game.
Full details of both the Skye Mor & Skye Beag routes and more can be found at Hands On Events
Skinny Tyres are delighted to have teamed up with the event organisers, Hands On Events, for 2010 and are able to offer a complete support package for this event. As with all our trips our mission is to take care of all the details and allow you to concentrate 100% on turning the pedals.
We are limited to 9 places for this event and we expect these to sell quickly, so please book early. Our accommodation for this trip will be in the bunkhouse at the Dunvegan Hotel. Although the accommodation is basic, it is of a high standard and the same Skinny Tyres ethos applies as it does will all our other trips. The bunkhouses will be used exclusively by Skinny Tyres customers for the duration of the trip. Please contact us directly at Skinny Tyres for more details.
The Itinerary
Thursday evening
You will make your own way to the Dunvegan Hotel (Transfer from Inverness can be arranged if required). Upon arrival, you will have an opportunity to settle into you accomodation and meet the team. An evening meal will be provided and you will have the rest of your evening free for you to relax.
Friday
We will set off from the Dunvegan Hotel at 10am and head West along the A850. The total distance for today’s ride is 34 miles and we will take a circular route around the North West corner of the island via Edinbane, Skeabost and Bracadale. The ride will be fully supported with our guides and vehicular backup for any mechanical problems. Once back at the hotel, we will have lunch and the rest of the afternoon and evening to prepare bikes and relax prior to the event tomorrow. This is an ideal opportunity for you to have your complimentary sports massage. For those wanting to explore a bit further we can supply further routes for you to ride around the locality.
Saturday
After breakfast we will leave the hotel at 8am prompt and transport you and your bikes to the start at 9am from Plockton, (20 miles from the Dunvegan Hotel). It’s a rolling start for both events between 9am and 9.30am, so once you have got your timing chip then you are ready to go. Full details and rules can be found on the Hands On Events website.
After the event you will get a chance to have some of the famous Hands On Event vege chilli, get yourself a cup of tea or coffee and recount the days cycling with all the other riders. Hands On Events also provide post race massage, for a charity donation.
We will transport everyone and their bikes back to the Hotel after the event, get the bikes cleaned up and let you relax, before a well deserved evening meal.
Sunday
After breakfast, it’s time to pack up and say our cheerios, head home and start planning for next years event
Additional days’ riding can be arranged to extend your trip. Transfer to and from Inverness can also be arranged. Please contact Skinny Tyres for details.
