This ride is now fully booked

Please note that these routes are entirely dependant on the weather. There is still a lot of snow and ice on the main roads at the moment. This can potentially last well into February and March. If a route is unrideable then an alternative route will be used. This will be decided in the week prior to the ride. We will only cancel the ride in the event of extreme weather circumstances. Please keep checking this website in the run up to the event.

The Itinerary

Sat 20th March 2010. Fully Booked

Meet at Escape Route, Pitlochry (alt 321ft) 10.30am.

Ride starts @11am

(Please arrive early if you wish to have your bike checked)

Total distance: 60.5miles. Total ascent: 6680ft. Total descent: 6669ft. Highest point: Glen Quaich Summit, alt 1741ft (@32.7miles). Other high points: Griffin Forest alt 1317 (@18.8miles), Loch Kinardochy alt 1262 (@43.4miles)

Starting at Pitlochry our first part of the route will take in the last 15miles of the Etape Caledonia route in reverse. Heading south on the unclassified road to Logierait, we will then turn West onto the A827, before joing the old Strathtay road and cycling along the North shore of the River Tay. At Aberfeldy we will cycle up the 3mile climb to Griffin Forest on the A826 and then double back at Amulree and head for probably one of the most challenging climbs in the area, if not Scotland. The Glen Quaich climb will certainly challenge your legs, but the views as you descend down the other side towards Kenmore are stunning (for those wanting to miss out these 2 challenging climbs, there is an alternative route that can be taken to Kenmore). From Kenmore, we again pick up the Etape route in reverse and ascend the climb up to Loch Kinardorchy.  From which we descend to Tummel Bridge before turning East and heading along the side of Loch Tummel back to Pitlochry

The weather in Scotland at this time of the year can be cold and very unpredictable and will likely have a dramatic effect on the ride. You should come fully prepared for the very worst, with plenty of food and warm clothing. As you will be riding in a group and the roads are likely to be wet it is advisable for your own comfort and that of others that you also use mud-guards on your bike.

During the ride we will have experienced guides to accompany us. They will be more than happy to support and advise on how to get the best out of your riding.

Additional days riding can be arranged to extend your trip. Transfer to and from Perth can also be arranged. Please contact Skinny Tyres for details.
