Etape Caledonia de luxe Training Weekend

Due to the unprecedented demand for our Etape Caledonia single day training rides, we have the pleasure of offering you the chance to add a weekend trip to your training schedule. Based in Birnam, just 13 miles South of Pitlochry, Skinny Tyres is now offering you the opportunity to spend a weekend cycling on many of the roads used on the Etape route. Birnam is ideally placed for the cyclist to access a huge network of quiet roads. Our local guides have an intimate knowledge of the locality and will help you discover some new hidden gems. Along with the opportunity to ride with fellow like-minded cyclists we can’t think of a better way to spend a weekend.

If I wasn’t already, I’m hooked now!!  My legs were tender at the end but the smile across my face gave away just exactly how I felt. I cannot over emphasize just how much better prepared I now feel for the big race in May. To Skinny Tyres I would just like to say keep up the good work and a big thank you!!
- Bradley Gardiner – single day ride February 2010

The first trip is an ideal preparation event for the 2010 Etape Caledonia, being scheduled just 4 weeks prior to the event. Further dates have been added to allow you to get some early training in for the 2011 event, or just have a great weekend away cycling in the beautiful countryside of Highland Perthshire.

Your trip will include:

  •  Full board accommodation
  • All meals inclusive
  • 2 days riding
  • Experienced and local guides on both rides
  • Support vehicle backup on both rides
  • Complimentary energy products
  • Evening massage
  • Evening basic bike repair workshop delivered by a bike shop mechanic

Accommodation is based on two people sharing a twin room. Single rooms can be booked on request, but will incur a £15 supplement. If required please select this option to put in your shopping basket.

The Itinerary

Saturday morning

Arrive at the hotel for an initial 40mile training run, starting at 11am. On the route our guides will lead you around some beautiful cycling scenery right on the Highland boundary line. We will provide you with complimentary energy products and a support vehicle will be on hand in the event of any mechanical difficulty. Our guides are all experienced in sportive and road racing and will be pleased to answer any questions or give advice on how to get the best from your riding.

Saturday afternoon

Returning to the hotel, we’ll give you a recovery drink and then you will have an opportunity to settle in to your room. We will also provide a light buffet lunch. Later in the afternoon we will provide an hour long seminar on emergency bike repairs, giving you practical hands on experience.

After dinner, you will have an opportunity to get a massage and then spend the rest of the evening relaxing.

Sunday

Following breakfast we will prepare for a 60 mile training ride. Starting at 10am, we will head Northwards onto a route that takes in sections of the Etape Caledonia course. As with Saturday, you will be fully supported with on ride guides, vehicle back up and energy products.

Lunch will be provided on route and we expect to return to the hotel by 2pm, to allow you plenty of time to make your return trip home.

Birnam is easily accessed from Edinburgh (58miles), Glasgow (71miles) and Aberdeen (81miles). It’s also a five minute walk from the train station, or a one minute freewheel down the hill.  Click here for map
